Abstract:
Album includes snapshots taken during the aftermath of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire. Photographs depict building
ruins, refugee camps, makeshift refugee shelters, street kitchens, and reconstruction scenes. A few photographs depict the
burning fire. Also includes postcards, clippings (some as late as the 1950s), and printed poetry pertaining to the event;
as well as original ink drawings of the ruins of St. John's Episcopal church and the Southern Pacific Railroad Hospital by
F. Gibson. Items are humorously captioned in ms throughout album.
